In conjunction with the Design Assessment this week, share the artifact you’ve selected to analyze for the design assessment project.
Offer your classmates some contextual information about the artifact. Where did you find it? Why did you choose it? Then, begin to frame what will become your analysis. In what ways do the principles of C.R.A.P. apply to this artifact?
And what questions do you still have? Include two questions about the artifact’s design that your classmates can help address.
A short paper:
This assignment will help you explore the ways in which the principles of C.R.A.P. impact document design.
What you’ll need: 1 artifact, preferably from professional contexts (brochure, flyer, report, advertisement, book cover, etc.).
What you’ll write: 250-375 words that address the following prompts:
1. Introduction (50-75 words): Begin your assessment response, by providing the context for the artifact you chose. What is it? Who created it? Who are the intended reader-users? In what context does this artifact exist? Why did you choose this artifact?
2. Assessment (150-200 words): Analyze the artifact considering the principles of C.R.A.P. In what ways are contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity being applied in the artifact? Discuss each principle separately, but note when they work together (or against each other, if appropriate). How is color being used? What about font and font size? What other design elements impact the visual organization of the artifact?
3. Recommendations (50-100 words): What would you change or do differently, regarding the artifact’s overall design? Use the principles of C.R.A.P. to frame your recommendations for revision
